Storing homemade bread
One time I made bread. I think it was a large rounded loaf. Anyway, for some reason, I wrapped the whole thing in a sizeable towel and put it in the refrigerator. That actually worked really well. The towel kept the crust nice and soft, and it tasted great the whole time.
Edit: For the record, it was a pretty thick towel, like the standard ones you might shower with. It wasn't a kitchen towel, nor a thin towel.

Re: Storing homemade bread
thats what we do when we make bread. either that or we will freeze a loaf.
with out preservatives, home made bread does not keep long at room temp,
not that it should be around for long being home made and all. storing bread
in the fridge will significantly extend its shelf life.

Re: Storing homemade bread
Down here in north Texas, even commercial bread will not only go stale pretty fast, but mold quick at room temps. Have to try the towel thing, we keep bread in the fridge, tightly sealed, to make it last a bit longer.
Moldy bread gets buried in my tubs, under some dirt unless there is just too much of it at once. breaks down pretty fast here.

Re: Storing homemade bread
I slice up the loaf and wrap slices in pairs with plastic wrap so that I can take just what I need out. 30-40 seconds in the microwave and they're as good as just made.

Re: Storing homemade bread
My dog growing up stored it underground for months.
According to him it tasted better.

Since I was a child, I've always had dreams of owning a treasure chest, filling it with cookies, and burying it in the backyard.
