What Great tomatoes are the seediest ?

Hey I sure like the heart tomatoes ..but the seeds are very far and few between ..(hard for seed collecting )

Just wondering what great OP tomatoes ….would have the most seeds and guaranteed plentiful seeds even if only from
one fruit saved ….

What are the best seedy Cherry toms. ?
What are the best seedy small toms ?
What are the best seedy medium toms ?

I don't grow many large toms anymore …..but still would be interested in what is considered the seediest ok tasting Large ?

Do you have a color preference? Kellogg's Breakfast seems to me to have quite a bit of seeds but some people are put off by the bright orange color.

No Bright orange is good ! …

no color or shape preference just the seedy factor ...making it an extremely prolific and easy seed collector

even from one fruit .

Cherry toms: Post Office Spoonful. The fruits are small but seeds are plentiful. As for the bigger ones, I never really noticed.

The Indian Stripe tomatoes(medium size) that I grow seem to have plenty of seeds...more than I would ever need.

I seem to remember that Turkey Chomp was very seedy for a large red. Been a while since I grew it.

Try Cuostralee, Sweet Ozark Orange, and Thessaloniki. They have plenty of seeds per fruit, it seems. Sweet Ozark Orange has a similar meaty texture to heart varieties; I'm guessing you might like it. I used to have brown paper bags covered in seeds, and those were some of the more memorable ones for having the most on them. George Detsikas Italian Red and Chapman had a fair amount, I think.

Those are all large, though.

Burpee Gloriana is a medium-large one with a good amount of seeds.

Seek No Further Love Apple, Mexican Yellow, Missouri Pink Love Apple had a good amount of seeds. They're medium to large.

I'm not sure of the seediest on smaller tomatoes. The smaller tomatoes tend to be about 50 seeds each or so, I think. I know Matina and Green Pear are some I amassed lots of seeds from easily, but I don't know that it's because of above-average seed-counts.

I got a lot of seeds from Clear Pink Early (I don't remember if I liked the taste).

Porter (the pink plum one) seems to have a good amount of seeds.

I get a lot of seeds from my early Galapagos Island (but that's partially because I save them from lots of fruits; it's prolific). They're small seeds. Sweet Orange Cherry is similar there (with somewhat larger seeds, if I recall).

I also tend to look for varieties that are sold at lower prices, because maybe sometimes those are varieties with extra seeds. (I like seedy tomatoes.)

And wonderberries aren't tomatoes, but they have similar uses and lots of seeds. Same for pretty much any tomatillo.

If you like seeds, though, grow melons (like cantaloupes, and honeydews). I have a habit of saving seeds from every melon I grow and eat, almost, and I think my saved seed cooler is mostly full of those. I could probably plant thousands of acres with them. They're harder to give away than tomato seeds, though, especially since there's such a high rate of cross-pollination.

Matts Wild Cherry is ridiculously seedy. They like to explode when overripe and spew seeds everywhere.

Now ...Which one of the seediest tomatoes ...if you only could save one fruit ….

would produce enough seeds to "save the village" for next year …...with most potential seeds to seedlings to tomato plants ?

Which one would you choose ?

I really love heart tomatoes …..but they do not save the village for next year with their sparse seed count :+D

Probably Sweet Ozark Orange, if you don't mind large, midseason tomatoes (it is earlier than the other large ones I mentioned with it, though—but Thessaloniki is early for some people, even if it wasn't as early for me in 2016; I grew it again in 2019 and it was possibly much earlier, but it got a late start, which might have thrown things off).

If I had a longer season, I would probably grow SOO more often, but I like to focus on early tomatoes. It seems pretty reliable, even with different amounts of water. I watered it a lot in 2016 and hardly at all in 2017 and it did about the same. It was in different soil both years, though.

It does produce well for a large tomato (and would probably produce a lot more with a longer season), but I wouldn't put it on the same level there as the most prolific pastes, cherries, and small tomatoes, as far as the number of fruits go.

I guess the best chance ...would also come from an early to early /mid season variety ……

The "seedy 8 pak "

consisting of 2 cherry varieties , 2 small varieties , 2 medium varieties , 2 large varieties …..

imagine how easy and dependable it would be to collect seeds if one had 8 select seedy varieties …
….hmmm... maybe we should include in our tomato consideration the ease of procuring seeds for next year ..

of course .."taste "matters … and dependability and productivity ...but maybe we should up the seediness quotient ..if possible ?

to me a great tomato is not overly seeding for its type. I grow more for taste and flesh rather than an excessive amount of seed in one tomato
