What! Snow Already?!

Yep some parts of the state could be getting snow the next few days...  Tonight the low is supposed to be 51, Sunday the low is forecast to be 48, Monday it is supposed to drop to 45 and Tuesday it is supposed to be 44! 
My Micros are loaded and I mean LOADED with unripe tomatoes.  Thinking I may be hauling in some Micros to save those tomatoes but not sure if I need to tonight as they have handling mid to high 50s at night for most of their life. But yep starting tomorrow I think they will be on an in at night, out during the day schedule for a few days. 
Sigh thankfully we are not supposed to freeze yet as my in the dirt big tomatoes are also still loaded with green not even blushed tomatoes...  and my cucumbers and squash are just starting to produce... Oh well such is gardening in Wyoming.

It's been a crummy year here in the north and west part of North America. But mother nature is going to turn on the heat for the next two weeks and I should end up getting a decent tomato harvest, if almost a month later than normal. June really put us back a long time this year.

Steve! Thanks. I just checked the forecast and Yes! Summer is coming! What a year. Up here Juneuary continued into Julyuary with unseasonably cool temps and cooler nights.

We have it good in Massachusetts. Earlier, we were complaining about not getting any rain for 2 week in July.

What is this "rain" you speak of? is that the drops of moisture that feel like tears that we have had lately. Our state as well as most states around us have burning bans in place and we are listed as having red flag warnings for fire danger... I dread seeing my water bill for this summer.

[mention]wykvlvr[/mention], it has been the same here in southern Colorado as we are in extreme drought and fire conditions. When it does rain, it seems to evaporate as fast as it makes contact with the ground. Woodland Park, at around 7000 feet and 60 miles northwest of me, is expected to get snow flurries Tuesday and Wednesday. I can understand your concern about your water bill...it seems like my water usage for July and August has been over 50% more than last year. I just hope that the snowpack in the mountains will be above average this year or there will probably be water restrictions next year.

[mention]pondgardener[/mention] are you getting ready for our real snow this week?
I was just out deciding which of the bucket brigade will get brought under cover and which plants I will let go... Micros into the house, cukes into the garage, Yukon Quest Dwarf into the garage. Marigolds and other buckets can be left out.
Back garden is more problematic. I have grow bags with potatoes, squash and one huge one with tromboncino in it sigh In ground that will need covered are my shell beans and 4 tomato plants loaded with tomatoes that will need protection in hopes of saving them all.

[mention]wykvlvr[/mention] Yes, I am starting to look at what I can cover with old blankets and tarps...the cucumbers that are growing vertically, as tall as 10' are history, as well as the squash plants and the jalapeños are turning red, so I will pull those. The habaneros are starting to show some color, so those I really am concerned about and will cover pretty heavy. I have hundreds of water hyacinths in both ponds and the biofilters, that are not going to like the cold weather. Green beans are about picked out, so they are finished. I have a late patch of corn that is starting to tassel that I may not be able to cover and the tomatoes may not appreciate the cold either. Weather forecast was revised today to hit a low of 29˚(-2˚C) Wednesday morning and that is getting close to black frost territory. Will probably set a record for the earliest September frost...our average is Oct 7th. Good luck next week in your efforts...

Our worst will be Tuesday night/Wednesday morning with a forecast low of 22F(-5.5C) then yep right back into summer... gotta love our weather righ?

Luckily we have a few HOT days to harvest what we can before our predicted low temp of 26*F. I'm hoping to cover some hot peppers, but most everything will be toast come Wednesday AM. About 5 years ago I picked 8 buckets of green tomatoes that ripened in the garage. Luckily the harvest will be much less because of the blossom drop-high temps all through July and August. But it was a good year for cucumbers.

Wry grin I am happy to say I will get to taste Large Barred Boar. 4 of those I picked are ripening very nicely in the house. Most of the others were too young but I will have some nice fried green tomatoes. Also ripening nicely are Tigerella, Moskvich, and Stupice. The micros all came into the house so only got chilly (dh forgot to leave the rooms door open and had the heat register shut) but are looking okay. Many are loaded with tomatoes, one little 9 inch plant had 70 at last count and most are good sized for cherry tomatoes.
The down side of the cold weather is I went online to make a possible seed list for next year and discovered Forgotten Heirlooms and Heritage Seed Market(Bunny Hop) have been restocking... oops there went my savings but I snagged a couple of brand new micro tomatoes for spring...
