You dared the giver of seeds? I bet that you get it and if you do, you have to grow it.

I have Purple Calabash and would love to send you seeds.

I have Purple Calabash AND Red Calabash.
I'll likely work on this after the new year. I first have a project to post my entire collection (everything except tomatoes) over at the Secret Santa swap (Houzz/Gardenweb).

??? Now I'm curious Received Purple Calabash in trade a few years ago and it's never made the grow list yet. I note that Tatiana infers that there is a love-hate opinion among those who have grown it. Definitely an oldie if USDA got it in 1963.

I've had Purple Calabash, on and off, in my collection, for 15+ years. I don't think I ever want to try it. One description (which is enough for me) said it tasted like a rotten lime. I don't like ripe limes.
I think I'll have time, next week, to start the Master Wish List.

OMG I can't believe no one here likes Purple Calabash LOL. I got it about 30 years ago from J.L. Hudson and would describe it as a very complex tomato with an intense flavor and more tart than sweet, but not a spitter. We like this tomato a lot, but it's one where you want to make culinary flavor pairings that complement its flavor profile. We also just slice 'em and eat 'em! Perhaps there are different strains out there and some are not good? I've got a giant ziplock of seeds from the strain I've been maintaining for 30 years, so I'm happy to share.

The only flavor pairing I can come up with is a pint of raspberry maple vinaigrette.
