Hello from SE Texas
Hello from Southeast Texas. I moved to this area recently and am working on rebuilding my garden. I grow a variety of fruits and am looking forward to learning about and trying new varieties of tomatoes and other vegetables and herbs.

Thanks AZGardener and GoDawgs. I recently moved to Texas from an area just east of Atlanta GoDawgs after almost 15 years there (beautiful place). Now trying to adapt my practices to growing here. I was burned last year (the plants literally) because I started seeds around the same time I used to in Georgia and the summer heat got to them before they could really take off.

You have to make adjustments to your planting schedule based on exactly where you are. Tomatoes are easily a viable winter crop in inner areas of Houston, for most years. I lived in the Montrose neighborhood and had tomatoes fruiting and ripening all winter long there. May not be able to pull that off if in Katy or the Woodlands.GardenAndGame wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 6:17 am Thanks @AZGardener and @GoDawgs. In my experience, I have noticed that many gardeners in SE Texas, especially coming from other places, wait way too late to plant in the spring in general and fail to take advantage of the great opportunities for vegetables in fall and winter gardens.

Yes, lesson learned. I knew I should have started earlier but other things kept popping up. I'm going to try to get a fall and winter garden going this coming year. I unfortunately lost all of my seeds in the move from Georgia and didn't get to plant anything for this fall but hoping to rebuild now.

worth1 , yes, the only seeds that seem to be viable after my move are an unknown mustard so I've started germinating those.
