Dear Abby-- From a shut in tomato grower !

Dear Abby ---I've been married to the same wonderful woman for 44 years. But lately I find myself sneaking to watch British women talk about tomatoes on youtube. The way they pronounce tomato, is extremely different from us Yanks. I find it totally seductive. I find myself wanting to take a handful of tomato seeds, and run out and roll in the dirt with them, even though nothing can sprout in this cold soil.  Has being shut in from covid in cold weather made me snap? Or have I become an old tomato pervert? My wife has been shut in with me, and she is growing suspicious. She often asks me, why am I watching tomato videos in December ? Then she often taunts me. This morning she said," I sure miss garden tomatoes with this breakfast gravy." I think she is testing me, if I will confess? It is 60 days before I can start germinate testing my collected pepper seeds. I fear being shut in will make me snap. I've thought about seeking counseling. But there are no tomato counselors in the yellow pages. If there is someone qualified to be a tomato counselor, most likely they would be on this site. PS.. Signed---Confused looking for suggestions ??

Dear Shut in Tomato Grower
Have you ever thought about trying Micro Dwarf tomatoes? This is the perfect time to plant a few. They will be giving you fresh ripe tomatoes before you can start your pepper seeds. Granted they will be cherry sized tomatoes but there have been some very interesting new releases this fall.

Dear TomHillbilly,

I am a British woman and I wish I could whisper the word "tomato" in your ear {LOL}.

I strongly suggest that you pick up some grow lights and get yourself some of those Micro Dwarf tomatoes that wykvlvr recommends. I'm growing a few at the moment because I too am suffering from tomato withdrawal. One variety that I recommend for decent taste is Red Robin. If you live in the deep south, you could even get by with growing a few pots in a sunny window and your wife would probably be delighted that you are happy again and that you have something to keep you occupied :).

And you'll be able to satisfy your wife's tomato cravings! :D
