wykvlvr! THAT hurts, just thinking about minus any degrees.

Re: How's your weather?
snowing every day here. about 5 inches overnight.
i got my truck back, and tried plowing the driveway. it was a difficult job
because there is just no where to push the snow. a neighbor with a bigger tractor
than mine was able to clear the drive for me in just a few minutes. my little tractor
got picked up today to find out why its blowing smoke at higher speed, and running rough.
that maybe gets looked at tomorrow. high temps for the next few days will be single digits.
lows will be below zero. visibility is not so good at times with blowing snow.
for now, the drive way is passable.
hurrah for good neighbors.

Re: How's your weather?
Here in the DFW to Waco area of Texas - 27F low and a 35F high for Thursday isn't strange. From Friday the 12th until Wednesday the 17th - it's not supposed to get above freezing. That's 100+ hours below freezing with lows in the single digits. I remember that happening once here in 1983 when I was 18. I'll be 56 in April, so yeah, it doesn't happen often.
In 1983, there wasn't any precipitation for the most part. At 18, I had fun with it. Our pond froze over about 6 inches deep, so I took an axe and chopped ice blocks and made an ice wall that I placed on the pond. After the temperatures warmed a little, I went to town to check on relatives. The roads there were buckled from waterlines bursting - it was a costly mess.
The rest of the forecast tonight was a surprise. They showed snow happening here Sunday and Monday of 10 inches or more. I have never seen that much snow. It will happen or it won't. Stay warm.

Strange. 77 degrees here yesterday. 47 degrees with thunderstorms this morning. Highs are forecast to be in the low-to-mid 40s for the next week or so...

Re: How's your weather?
Here in Northern Kentucky this morning we have about 1/4" of ice along with a couple inches of snow. Could be worse. I see no tree damage as of yet & the power is still on. On mornings like this I'm glad we still have a wood burning fireplace insert. As I get older, we use it less & less but when there's snow/ice on the ground it sure feels good. I checked the anti-freeze in our vehicles & tractors again last week just to be sure we are ok.

Re: How's your weather?
Had to stay home this morning for the cable guy to fix my internet.
Poor devil had to climb a pole and replace the cable to my house.
Funny thing is it started working again as he drove up.
But the cable was bad at the top of the pole.

The ice missed us for the most part even though we are in the blue section on that map. A lot of people around DFW have no clue how to drive on icy bridges and overpasses.worth1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:51 am Horrible.

Re: How's your weather?
73 here yesterday and after a foggy start it's a misty day with some possible t-storms later today. I think all that frozen mess will pass north of us, maybe touching the northern border of Georgia but none of it here. Temps will fall back to the seasonal 50's with lows in the 40's, at least for now. Perfect weather for brassicas.

I wonder how fast they were driving, just besides the 'no brakes no steering etc' ice treat,... Just awful to imagine how bad that is, ice AND high speed AND high density of cars. Nasty!worth1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 11:51 am Horrible.

Re: How's your weather?
Yow.
Ahh, it's good to be home with no plans to go anywhere in a hurry!
We had blizzard conditions today, very gusty with snarling winds from the N and NW with windchills -20C, that's a few below zero F. We got more snow than I expected and still falling, so probably a good shovel tomorrow.
Not that I'm going anywhere!!!
But if I don't keep the driveway to a dull roar, I'll end up blocked with snowcrete, and having to wait until spring... that would be a bit much.

Around 70 mph is normal there. Watching the videos, I would imagine that's how fast they were going.Bower wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 6:11 pmI wonder how fast they were driving, just besides the 'no brakes no steering etc' ice treat,... Re: How's your weather?
Only a bit of snow on the lawn, the streets/roads here are free, but we are living in one of the warmest parts of Germany. In almost all other parts it's quite different. Fortunately the floods in the south are not as bad as before, but the snow in the north is. Some trains are running again, but trucks are still struggling with snow and ice. What I really hate, are the icy temps - I don't like living in a freezer! Much sun during the day (temps just above 0°C), but ice-cold nights and strong winds from the north-east = awful windchill. Greetings from Siberia!

Mom said that when she was growing up in the old country they would dig tunnels between buildings.
We're forecast to have a bit of snow for a short while starting tonight as we get warmer.
Gee, I guess I get to stay in, again...
