New posts
Either I am confused about what constitutes a "new post" or it is not really working correctly for me. When I click on "new posts" it brings up a list of posts, but some will have a black scroll type icon next to it and others will have a red one. Now as I understand it, the ones that are red have unread posts in them and the ones that are black do not have any unread posts in them. If that is the case, why are the ones with the black scroll even coming up when I click on "new posts"? If I go through the list and read the new posts on say, half of them, and then hit "new posts" again, the ones I have already read are still there, just in black. So obviously my expectation that new posts would mean posts that I haven't read yet, is incorrect. What actually does it mean then? Any post in the last 24 hours or 12 hours or some other time frame?

Re: New posts
Just did. Seems to depend on how I get there. If I just hit "new posts" at the top of the page it is all in red. If I go to Quick Links and then New Posts, I get a list of some in red and some in black. Gremlins only like quick links?

It's me, I changed the link to Unread Posts because that seems to work better than New Posts. You're the first to know!!!

Re: New posts
New Posts seems to call up posts that have been made recently. Not ones that you have or haven't read. Among the new posts are a lot you haven't gotten around to reading yet cause they're new.

Re: New posts
I can be a big help finding the gremlins on this site, I seem to gravitate towards them, lol. Now Quick Links has two categories, New Posts And Unread Posts. What actually is the difference?

Re: New posts
How recent are “New Posts”? Might be useful if I am looking for a post that I know I saw, say in the last 12 or 24 hours.

Re: New posts
New post will only repopulate when you log off and back in but the way it's set now, you will always get new posts. I tested it after I changed it and it works like a New post button should work.
I hope you keep finding the Gremlins, I need to know so bug me all you want. It helps everyone else who hasn't fond them yet!!

Re: New posts
Hey Rob,
Did the New Post beside the Home Index been converted as ´Unread New Posts`?

Re: New posts
Unread Posts has been there for quite a while. I assume it is linked to each user, so it's the one I use instead of New Posts when I check to see what's new to me. Sometimes I don't have time to read all the threads.

Re: New posts
Yes, I changed it. Good Catch!!!!
I thought it was better than the new posts due to the way the board considers new posts. Now it works like a new post button should showing only new posts.
Do you like that better?

Re: New posts
I can't figure out how to get all new posts. When I click on new posts I get new unread posts. Sometimes I'll read a post and then want to find it again but can't. Is there a way to find new read posts?

zeuspaul If you are willing to sign out as a member, open up Tomato Junction without signing in and then click on New Posts. You should be able to see what has recently been posted going back a few months. But posts that are only seen by registered members would not be listed...

Re: New posts
You can use the quick links button at the top left to see unread posts and new posts. The new post button under the header is actually unread posts. I forgot why we set it up that way but it hasn't been a problem.

Re: New posts
Thanks Rajun Gardener that works. However I only get today's posts. pondgardner 's method is more what I am looking for as it includes all recent posts going back days. Logging in and out is a bit of a pain. My primary method of reading the forum is to look at recent posts and filtering out some of the posts isn't helpful.
Is there a way of using the search function with wildcards to display ALL recent posts going back days or weeks?

Re: New posts
On this new computer, W10, each new post drops off the list after I have read it and clicked my saved new posts bookmark in the tool bar to return to new posts.
If I want to see the whole list as I read I use the back arrow to return to new posts and all are still there until I return later in the day and there's a new list. So far, so good.
