New Year Doings

What will you be doing New Year's Eve/New Year's Day? Do you have any traditions?

Tonight we might go downtown (or as we say it in Pittsburgh, "dahntahn") to the arts, music, & fireworks they have.

We have a traditional food for New Year: cucumber dip and potato chips. It might not be good for you but its awfully tasty. New Year's Day will be spent with DH, Mum, Sis, & whoever else shows up at Mum's house, scarfing up dip & chips.

Cuke Dip

2 medium or smaller cucumbers
8 oz. Neufchatel cream cheese, room temp (regular can be substituted)
2 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce or more to taste
Salt to taste

Peel cucumbers. Shred. Drain, reserving liquid. Mix together shredded cucumbers, cream cheese, and Worcestershire sauce plus enough of reserved cucumber sauce to make mixture a good dipping consistency (About half the liquid). Add salt & more Worcestershire sauce to taste. Serve with potato chips.

I have friends coming for an Early Eve dinner with the wee kids. :) I need to vamoose now and get some things ready. I roasted some spuds last night to make 'twice baked' potatoes which can be finished off in a short time while meats are resting after roasting. How to cook for a crowd with a toaster oven!

There used to be a symbolic raising of a giant chile pepper to the top of the local train depot, similar to the lowering of the crystal ball in Times Square, but after 20 years it will not happen this year due to lack of sponsorship. In any case, we plan to stay home, watch a movie or two and watch the chaos in New York. I wish everyone here a safe and joyous celebration, whatever you do, and looking forward to a growing community next year, here at the Junction.

We usually have a bonfire and fireworks with the kids, but this year, it's just me, the missus, and the 6 animals...maybe a smaller fire in the firepit, and listen to the fireworks from town. Pretty tame this year...Happy New Year, Y'all!! Be safe!!

Holy smokes, I almost forgot what I was going to have for New Years eve snacking.
One of which I thawed out some beef sweetbreads, 'Going to flip them in flour and fry them up.
Seasoning will be the usual black pepper, garlic powder and a dash of salt.
