Micro Pinocchio Orange ready

The Pinocchio Orange micro tomato was started Dec 14th and it's ready for the first picking.



I will taste a few and use the rest of them for seed saving. One thing I have learned about micros is that I need to stake them when they're very young as fruit set will make them lean way over. Once they're bent over there's no staking them back up. But that would be great for a hanging basket if that were the intent and that just might be what I'll do this summer. Hang them on the porch!

I did taste them and gave one to my sister. We both thought they were great! Of the four prior micros I've experienced (Joshalos, Lille Lise, Red Robin and Chibikko, I think I like PInocchio best with Joshalos a close second. Interesting that both of those are yellow/gold.

Chibikko has sort of a strange flavor, at least to me it does. I don't think I'll do any more of that one.

I use small 18" three ring plant supports for my micros. I get them from a Euro shop / dollar store.

Yes, Chibikko has an unusual, almost musky flavour. I didn't like it but my mother did.
