Re: Help Me Choose?
Pantano Romanesco was pretty productive for me. The first tomatoes were large, but by the end of the season they were only a few ounces each. I didn't love them for fresh eating, and I never had enough of them at one time to cook with, so I don't think I'll grow them again. I'm not saying they were a bad tomato, just that they weren't well suited to me. Did the restaurant guy make sauce with his?slugworth wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 2:25 pm Pantano Romanesco I traded plants to a guy that runs a restaurant and I had free pizza slices until there was snow on the ground.
I like to trade plants you can't normally buy local.
Will trade for food.
I didn't start any this year. 26 different varieties was enough for me without adding that one.
Soldacki did well last year. That is a repeat-bought plants and others from saved seed.

That's a pretty tomato! What's your opinion of Soldacki's flavor? My plant last year only produced a few tomatoes, and I can't remember them clearly now. I should take better notes. That poor thing went in the ground late and was planted at the bottom of the garden in a wet area with heavy, soggy soil. I'll give it another try some year.

I was delighted with the soldacki, early for here and good size/flavor.
Normally here you don't get big tomatoes til mid to late august.
I bought plants and started some from saved seeds this year.

Re: Help Me Choose?
He had problems with deer eating the plants,so it was a race to see who/what would eat it 1st.
He may have had just enough to eat vs. sauce making.
