the taste of early tomatoes

Maybe it's because I haven't had a fresh tomato since October, but both early tomatoes I've tried have been really good! I used to think early tomatoes were not really worth the trouble. But the Early Wonder Pink and Saraev Vesennie Zamorozki were so good!! The Green Vernissage cherry tomatoes were not as good. I'm looking forward to tasting a Danko and a small Rose de Berne later today.

No it's not that you haven't had one since October. Glad to hear they're good!
A lot of good tomatoes can be bland or mealy when they set in too cold temperatures early season. So there's a reason for the reputation, but not true of all early tomatoes and not all early seasons either (thinking California advantage!).
I have a tendency to pick the first fruit too early, then can't wait for it to get nice and primo ripe before eating it, which basically locks me in for a disappointing experience. Unless I can resist the compulsion to eat first fruit before ready....

Bower, yes, come to think of it, the early tomatoes I haven’t loved were indeed grown in cooler temperatures. So I guess that’s one benefit of the 106 F today and the 113F forecast for tomorrow!!!

It is always plenty hot here before the tomatoes ripen, so the first tomatoes always taste better than any since last season!

Knowing that you trial both the greens and the Vernissages, you got the seeds, as it was logical that you might be the one that possibly would like it.

Not AS good as the others, but still good!! The plant itself is a monster! And I am looking forward to eating more of these. I really do like green-when-ripe tomatoes.

Today my wife and I shared the best tomato that we've had since last October. It was a salad--size from Independence Day (PL). May be 33 other varieties in the garden which will be better but this was the best of this season.

Mat-Su Express was our first ripe tomato. Very good taste for the first fruit of the year.

Started picking a few tomatoes from the Start seeds that [mention]MrBig46[/mention] generously passed out earlier in the year. Fantastic taste and perfect size to cut up to use in salads.

I'm finally enjoying Start from MrBig46 (thanks again!) We've been eating them for a while from our two bountiful plants, but I made the mistake of eating them when very red, but still rather hard. When I had enough to allow some to get perfectly ripe and very slightly soft when squeezed, I found them delicious .

I'm really glad you like it. It's a bit of proof that our action along with RJGlew wasn't useless. We will continue in the autumn, we will send the seeds to Tormat so that those interested can get the seeds within the MMMM.

Cole, once again, is the first to ripen in my garden. The flavor, once again, is underwhelming. On the plus side, the many drenching rain storms haven't been able to wash away what little flavor this variety has.

Yayyy!! First blushers this morning. I knew they would blush if I shamed them on the internet!

Pre-covid ,sub arctic plenty and oregon spring were duds.
They tasted like store bought tomatoes during the winter.
I ripped up the plants to make room for other varieties.
A shame,since I started both types from seed.
No duds so far this year except ones that don't do well in jungle weather.

It grows very compact, for me. About 2 feet high.

Early to mid August is when it will begin (with new threads and posts). Sending in seeds usually doesn't start until about late September/early October.

But first, I have to have most of the previous threads cleared away.
