Any other southerners starting seeds yet?

Anybody else getting ready or started seeds already? Got my supplies ready, andwill probably get a few seeds going tomorrow. Lowe's has some nice bags of 8qt seed starting mix for $5.

I plan to start after the first, I need to clean out the GH and fire up the dutch bucket system to check for leaks.

Yes, me. Today I transferred my seedlings which had their first well-formed set of true leaves into into larger containers. I started the seeds in egg cartons. I posted some pictures in the seed starting thread.

I'm not as south as many of you early starters, but I just started some 7-pot Primo super hots since they are long season and often slow to germinate, plus some Manzano (Orange Rocoto) pepper seeds since they take a while as well and I'm hoping to try to get a pepper or two from them before the real heat hits. I've heard they won't do much in the heat since they prefer cooler weather. I need to look through my list of peppers and see if there are others worth getting going extra early. I just don't want them too big that they're hard to deal with or take up too much room under the lights. Plus the longer I keep them inside the longer they have to develop issues with spider mites or aphids. Those things can somehow magically appear it seems.

I'm also starting a few Jalapeno types (Yellow Lemon Spice and Zapotec) this week which I intend to try grafting to each other to make double variety plants. The grafting will take time and slow them down for while during healing, so I want to get them going early. I grow extras seedlings for the local high school PTA plant sale and thought there'd be an interest in these if I can succeed with the grafting and get them large enough that they are already setting peppers. While most of the seedlings I give them I don't start until late Feb and they're still in dixie cups, these I'm thinking will be in gallon pots when I give them to the sale. It will be an interesting experiment.

Only growing six tomato plants this year. Just planted five today. Big Beef, Stupice, Estler's Mortgage Lifter, Indian Stripe PL, and Wild Fred.

Started mustard 2 weeks ago but then nothing but rain. It will probably be fine anyway.
Starting next wave of lettuce, chard and peas today.
Starting tomatoes, peppers and eggplant under lights in the garage this weekend.

I am only growing 1 variety this year - Estler's Mortgage Lifter- for seeds. At least in the early growing season. And I am going to stagger my seed sowing, a few starting early February then a few more the next week and then 2 more weeks after that for a total of 4 weeks of starting. Plantout will also be staggered as I am learning to deal with heat and pests in this area. I will probably start cherry tomato seeds late July for a fall crop.

I started out first seedlings for outside planting on January 1- two trays of spinach and one with a mix of different greens. I'll start a few more for succession planting this coming weekend. We have 6 beds (4x8) of kale, collards, mustard greens, and Asian cabbages under Agribon fabric that we are harvesting as well as bunching onions and some spinach that are doing well without any protection. Our home is in Southwest Tennessee, not too far from Memphis and the TN/MS border. We are in the transition area between 7b and 8a. I'll start some lettuce and peas in February to plant out in March.

I'll start peppers and tomatoes in February, along with some ornamentals.
