Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
After almost 50 years I just realized my evil sister put my cat in the refrigerator.
We got home and she came out.
My sister was trying to kill it.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I got the devil scared out of me yesterday morning.
I mean really spooked.
I came out to go to work and this horrific noise erupted close to me.
Pitch black outside.
Oh my God what the hell is that.
Almost took tail and ran off down the street.
Then it happened again.
What the--.
Then I realized it was a sheep in my neighbors screened in back porch talking to me.
Sounded like the devil himself.
Got home yesterday and it started up again talking to me.

Here is Gabby the sheep.
She was a twin and not accepted by her mother.
So a total bottle fed pet from a wee baby. Plus her friends a goat and a dachshund.
Dogs name is Marbles

@worth1 the sheep, the goat and the dog. Has all the potential of another littlest hobo movie.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I was telling my husband -- after I packed up and sent off the MMMM stuff -- how disappointed I have been in newer groups and generations of plant people. Told him.about how a billion years ago, when I first got on the internet in 1996, I found Gardenweb shortly afterwards. Plant people united and traded and did SASE stuff. I am sure people lacked boundaries, but I remember mostly it was respectful. I did so many wonderful trades. I met great people. I know some of them still. I was 18 and one of the younger ones and mostly people I knew IRL didn't care for plants at all. As a shy person, I lurked a lot so many more of the online people didn't know i was there.
About 10 or 15 years later, I had life settle down a bit. I looked for the same communities and found they don't really exist hardly. Everyone wants to sell their cuttings to you. Or whatever. So much misinformation. Greed. Very little of the same spirit. I decided to pull back from online plant stuff as i found it depressing.
I was glad to have found this place and the former place. The trend for profit has only increased. I am sad for what most groups have become and the mentality of most of the participants I have seen. It just makes places and people like this extra special.

I was on Gardenweb way back then also. It was wonderful I thought. I really missed it when it went away.

Wasn't it? I mean, people had fights and there was Disney, but it was really fantastic. If I could go back in time, I would be sure to take every advantage and savor it.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
Forums themselves are becoming a thing of the past and it's too bad. Places like this allow you to interact with others and hold a conversation. Everything is headed towards Facebook, Twitter and such. You just can't really interact with people and form relationships. It is very hard to teach anything. People there believe just about anything and then go and spread false information just because someone said so.
Most forums seem to wither out once people there stop following the rules and start arguing. Nobody wants to listen to arguments and moderators get tired of dealing with it. The place just goes down the drain.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
So true. I actually prefer the message board style. It is easier to navigate topics that way. Facebook groups display too much text at once and the search function is only half functional. I feel like you can teach and such, but the functionality of a board is better. I have met and befriended others in FB groups, but we tend to move to messenger and essentially engage in email-like correspondence for the foreseeable future. I did the same off Gardenweb. Met a person and we have been emailing, nearly daily, Since 1999.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
I never liked FB and twitter all that much. Forums are more interesting to me. I try not to get too worked up about stuff posted. Opinions aren’t facts or necessarily the truth. Mine, yours, whatever. TJ has a lot of relevant to gardening information and other topics of interest. If this forum doesn’t work out, it isn’t life or death. People are pretty adaptable.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
i got a card in todays mail.
no return address.
it is addressed to my family.
street number is way wrong with a question mark written next to it.
NO STAMP!
there was a red postage due stamped on the envelope, and a small envelope with postage due 58 cents written on it.
now i am really curious who this card is from.
i open it and see a picture of my pharmacy techs two young sons with hockey gear on posing with santa.
i laughed, and laughed.
don' t know the address? no problem, do the best you can.
no stamp? no problem, we'll get it from ya later.
life in da U.P.
she will be getting some ribbing at work when i bring the envelope in to show her.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
i opened up the chicken coop the other morning, and discovered a bunny ensconced in a nesting box looking very comfortable.
the chickens did not seem to mind the bunny being there. it must have gone into the coop the previous evening before the door was shut.
i encouraged it to leave. at nearly $29.00 a 50 lb bag for organic chicken feed. i would rather not be feeding the local wild life.
it was a humorous sight to see.

I think politicians should have to take an all around competency test.
The outright stupidity of these people is astounding.
Nothing like the mind of Thomas Jefferson.
Not even close.
Some of them aren't worthy of local dog catcher.
I just take it for granted most of the news media are idiots.

Re: Stochastic Contemplations.
The other morning early at the store where I stop some young drug crazed tweeker was running around.
He walked out in front of me and stared into my headlights then walked on making a circle in the parking lot.
Then back in the store he would go sit down tweek a little and get back up and repeat everything.
This guy was spooky big time and to me looked like he could go off the rails at a moments notice.
If he would have attacked me I wouldn't have stood a chance.
This was in Bastrop.
