Re: Resources to look up Tomato variety info
I often find my way to Croatian Seeds Store when I'm researching tomato varieties. They carry a large number of unusual varieties, have excellent pictures, give you the basic facts and not too much over-enthusiastic fluff. https://croatianseeds-store.com/index.p ... 2/tomatoes
I also like Remy's Sample Seed Shop descriptions, still available at her website: http://www.sampleseeds.com/ You won't necessarily get all the dry facts like DTM or determinate vs. indeterminate, but you get an honest description of strengths and flaws and how it performed in her garden.
Heritage Seed Market is another good source of variety info & pictures: https://heritageseedmarket.com/index.ph ... mato-seed/
Secret Seed Cartel is great for photos and stories of unusual varieties, but every tomato they sell is the greatest tomato in the history of tomatoes, so I tend to read the descriptions with one eyebrow slightly raised: https://secretseedcartel.com/
If you're in the north, you may find Hill Farm Nursery's Tomato Archives particularly useful: https://hillfarmnursery.com/tomato-long ... 1-to-2013/
I'm certainly no expert in heirlooms, so I hope someone will speak up if they think any of these sources are unreliable/inaccurate.

Laurel's Heirloom Tomato Plants, https://www.heirloomtomatoplants.com/ .
She sells tomato plants, but the tomato descriptions are very helpful.
To get to the descriptions, go to https://www.heirloomtomatoplants.com/He ... _seeds.htm .
From there either scroll down or CTRL+F to the following sections:
Before you get to the The Big List, there is a legend that tells you what the symbols mean that accompany the descriptions.

I was directed to this gardening association/seed vendor Cultive ta Rue in France (I assume since it is in French). They have a good amount of information and a lot of tomato varieties in their inventory. It is also presented very well.

One learns a bit about foreign languages when doing tomato research. I learned that Google translate does a very poor job. It seems translation is subjective, especially spelling.

Re: Resources to look up Tomato variety info
I have about 60 varieties sent to me by Lotte that could use some descriptions. I'll first see if she can do it. Otherwise, I'm going to spring a long list on this community.

I like to use these (most of which have been mentioned already):
Tatiana's
Dave's Garden
Seed vendors (Baker Creek, Victory Seeds, Sand Hill Preservation Center, Trade Winds Fruit, TomatoFest, etc.)
Bonnieplants
Forums (here, Tomatoville, Gardenweb, Not Just Tomatoes, Homegrown Goodness, etc.)
Also, theseedbank.net has information on 168 tomatoes in its wiki.

Re: Resources to look up Tomato variety info
Here are some gems that I neglected to mention:
- https://web.archive.org/web/20180525083 ... omato-a-i/
- https://web.archive.org/web/20180525083 ... omato-j-r/
- https://web.archive.org/web/20180525084 ... omato-s-z/
Those are via Archive.org, since the actual links are broken nowadays (which links I got from the link that follows):
- https://cucurbitbreeding.wordpress.ncsu ... h-america/
These links are great if you're looking to find out which open-pollinated tomatoes have which disease-resistances. They also have historical value, and you can find out what some ancestors of many varieties were.
You can find information for a lot of other kinds of plants than tomatoes.

Re: Resources to look up Tomato variety info
Wait, it looks like the site still exists, but it changed its domain and links. It's now cucurbit.info:
- https://cucurbit.info/2016/06/tomato-j-r/
- https://cucurbit.info/2016/06/tomato-s-z/
I'll leave the previous links up in case they change again.

Re: Resources to look up Tomato variety info
A local greenhouse guy once mentioned Mainpak based on the Ace variety geared towards northeast gardens.
The flaw was cracking shoulders,so not very pretty for store sales.
It disappeared in the 80's
