Re: What's on your 2022 tomato growlist?
I have kept records of what I have sown since 2017 and when looking through that list these ones I remember being early and producing well:AKgardener wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 12:55 pm @svalli I would love to get new variety but my mail system is so messed up where I live I literally have to have my daughter order things for me so I get them .so if you could just give me the names of the varieties you grow I’ll save it on my to get list . Our mail goes into other people mail mix we get there and just recently I went to get a package and someone put a stop to all our mail. To frustrating

New Yorker
Pink Passion
Ropreco Paste
Safari Dwarf
Sanka
Sasha's Altai
Skorospelka
Sweet Linda
Uralskiy Ranniy
There are also many others, which are early and great. I grow many dwarf varieties every year and New Big Dwarf has been my favorite. It is late ripening, but it is something I every year wait for. This year I am planning to replace it with Brandyfred, because last summer it ripened a bit earlier and taste of the tomatoes was awesome.

Tell hubby it's the struggle that makes you happy.AKgardener wrote: ↑Mon Jan 31, 2022 2:35 am @svalli my husband’s only pet peeve is the tomatoes he knows better than to step on my toes when it comes to my garden simply because like you said it’s my domain and knows if I need something I’ll ask .I think it’s more him doesn’t like me struggling and is trying to make it easy for me to succeed rather than fail each time ! I see his point I just don’t agree
Your domain, but I recommend one Pervaya Lyubov plant, even if you have to top it, or train it to grow sideways to fit in the greenhouse.

I like to do comparisons of tomatoes that share a set of common characteristics, grow favorites, try new to me varieties, grow experimental stuff. * reflect having grown previously, some for many years consecutively.
For 2022 (and every year my list is influx until the seeds hit the mix), but as of now I'm lining this up.

Re: What's on your 2022 tomato growlist?
It is from another gardener that has been working on dwarf project Teensy family cherries. She found the Teensy chocolate lead that will likely be sent off after this growing season for release. I don't think she's on TJ (was on TV), but could be as I'm not on a ton.
Ladies of Manor is her find from a bee cross of Brandywine and Black Cherry, at F5 this year I believe. Her description from our email exchange:
"I also had one very good B'wine x Black Cherry that seemed resistant to the weather-related nonsense. I grew three of them, and they were consistent in terms of being potato-leaved, manageably sized plants that bear smallish, somewhat flattened, pink beefsteaks. I've decided to name the developing variety in advance -- I'm calling it Ladies of the Manor, after a long-running joke between my gardening friends and me."
With parents like that I was intrigued to give it a try, especially since she said her 2021 was very wet and had a lot of fungal pressure, but this one seemingly resisted a lot of that. Fungal foliage issues are my biggest nemesis, although last year was quite dry, which resulted in the best tomato year I had ever had.

Re: What's on your 2022 tomato growlist?
@Tormato mostly life. People took stuff and had a huge number of dog or gopher casualties. One had a husband casualty. Then some people reported a good harvest and then never pulled through on letting any filter my way. But those people actually needed food and so I felt pretty good about those results. Then some were in other states which was a logistics issue
. I gifted like 25 plants to Ok and Ar. I did about 40 here.

Re: What's on your 2022 tomato growlist?
My Cold Black Brandy turned out to be quite unstable in fruit shape, taste, and production when I grew it again in 2021. There's a chance it'll be super awesome, but I wouldn't count on it.Julianna wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 12:21 pm Somehow, i need to trim to 8. Seeds of CBB should probably get out to T'junction's one Newfie. I'm (somewhat) confident that I can say that term, knowing the Newfie's sense of humor.Shule wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 9:32 pmMy Cold Black Brandy turned out to be quite unstable in fruit shape, taste, and production when I grew it again in 2021. I could easily see many requests for Butterscotch Heart and Wild Thyme Purple seeds, later in the year. How I know will remain a mystery.Julianna wrote: ↑Tue Feb 08, 2022 12:21 pm Somehow, i need to trim to 8. I will mull it over for a while and then probably chop the list after reading more reviews.

Re: What's on your 2022 tomato growlist?
I got BH from Dean Slater. I had been looking for Gunmetal Grey after reading its praises from an English grower, and when I saw the list of what he had, I decided i may as well get that too. So i basically know very little to nothing about it and have not seen more than one teeny picture. Seemed like an adventure.
