Sixteen of mine are in the ground. Before anyone gets fussy with me, my county puts ideal setting out tomato transplants into the garden for 2/20-3/15, so I’m not really jumping the gun all that much.

From front to back, left to right, foreground bed
Amana Orange X2
Black Krim, Japanese Black Trifele
Dragon’s Eye, Pineapple,
Carmello, Gregori’s Altai
1884, Hoy

Far bed
Beefsteak, Beefmaster F1
Carmello, Big Beef
Purple boy, Lemon Boy

I do this photo with the idea to get a published, searchable list to remember later in the season what I did, otherwise, I’ll forget.

More tomatoes to plant, just not sure what yet.

Last year I found out that I could no longer manage my garden and I would have to limit my cultivation. The problem is mainly commuting to the garden by public transport (back and forth for an hour and a half). I will grass half the beds and I will grow a limited assortment of vegetables. I will be growing else a lot of tomato varieties this year, but I don't know what will happen next year.
Now I have behind the window seedlings of determinant varieties intended for the hotbed (for planting in late March): 42 days, Vspyschka, Kalinka, Jagodka, Beavelodger slicer, Praleska, Sophie´s choice, Sarayev Shtambovyi, Lyana Rozovyi, Forest Fire, Kermerovets a Bezrassadnyi, Start F1 and EM Champion.
I will sow the seeds of indeterminate varieties only at the beginning of March, with the proviso that they will not go to the flower beds until after 15 May.

I added German Johnson
Mortgage Lifter,
Cherokee Purple
Sweet 100s

27 plants now in total and there’s a mystery one included in that number I grew from seed that the label washed off and I have no idea what it is.

Will 27 tomatoes be the final number? I just don’t know, but we are getting close.

I am adding to my list some late blight resistant hybrids for trial. Last year was terrible for late blight here, many people lost whole crops.

Nagina F1 (also known as Crimson Plum)
Rose Crush F1
Pink Honeymoon F1
Buffalosun F1

..and also some late blight resistant open pollinated cherries:

Primabella
Resi

I'm trying to hold out as long as possible. I always seem to start too soon. It's even harder now that i found out my sister in law started hers already.

Not super sure yet, but there are so many ones in this thread I never heard of. Wow. The little black krim that a nice person sent me on here, maybe some dirty girl, my space is very limited.

I added a few today. Went to the feedstore and they had some single sets that caught my eye, specifically, Druzba, White Wonder, and Paul Robeson, plus Sun Sugar, and sweet millions. Running out of garden space.

@AKgardener @Rockoe10; I started last year's crop on March 10-11 under the lights, and it turned out to be too early.

40 plants got too tall, too leggy, and then caught something both nasty and (sigh) fatal. Started over from square one on the last day of April; we had a late Memorial Day Weekend freeze, and I lost a few more.

I've decided to make April 2nd my tomato planting start time; it's my Dear late Father's (who gave me my start, in more ways than one) birthday, and a fitting tribute.

During his last few years he used to just LUV it when I'd bring over some of the bounty and cover his kitchen table with them labeled.

Being in WISconsin, I am at the tail end of the seed starting. It's sometimes frustrating for me because some of you are already seeing the fruits of your labors while mine are still an embryo. I find that April 15th works the best for me. The plants can get outdoors before they get leggy.

My tomato seeds are sown indoors and moved outside during the day, after seedlings begin to emerge (usually 3 to 4 days).
I'll check the long range weather forecast about April 1st.
If it doesn't look good, I'll check again about April 15th.
My normal starting date for the bulk of seedlings is May 1st.

Perhaps I'll start a few extra early varieties, and use Dingwall Scotty as a control, in order to monitor plant health in poor conditions.

Juni vs. Cole will a competition to see which will be the earliest variety.

My Daughter and I will be sharing the load this year,as well as sharing some plants with neighbors and friends, but this is our "current list" :

Stump of the World

Wes

Donskoi

Dester

Taiga

Polaris

Amana Orange

Blue Ridge Mountain

Aunt Ginny's Purple

Akers West Virginia

Olive Hill

Dotsons Lebanese Heart

Zenas Gift

and

Malachite Box...but I've been hearing about Captain Lucky? Can someone bring me up to speed about Captain Lucky? Is there much difference between it and Malachite Box? Would really like another GWR in the line-up , The Malachite Box has a really nice citrus component that I really enjoy (as does the wife and Daughter).Anything else I should be considering in the GWR genre?

With the swap basically over (except for a few people who will still receive seeds for next year, or the next southern hemisphere season), would you like my straight jacket? Or, would that hinder your seed starting?

Captain Lucky is not GWR @Shortcut Slim , I believe it is best described as a bi-color blunt heart, but not 100% sure t the moment. It is one of the parents of @KarenO Midnight Sun, Taiga, Tundra.

For an alternative GWR, Grubs Mystery Green is a good one.
