Black Krim

I grew Black Krim for the first time in 2021. At the time I was not sure it was true to type...Although a google image search for Black Krim shows a variation in the images... My seed source was a UK vendor callled Nicky's Nursery. I grew two plants & the all fruits were smaller, rounder, smoother & more uniform than I expected....

It was a good plant- earlyish, productive, healthy, tasty.... but just not sure I grew the 'real' Black Krim... I'm thinking about growing it again this year, (same seed source) but am curious about people's thoughts.

You've opened up a "can of worms", for me.

Often enough, I've heard people talk about getting smaller than normal, very tasty Black Krim tomatoes. I wonder if certain conditions, like the amounts of water and fertilizer, and weather, have an effect on fruit size.

I also wonder if Noire de Crimee is the same variety, or a completely different one to Black Krim. I've heard some say that NdC is smaller and tastier than BK. And the other question is that if they are two different tomatoes, how many people have treated them as the same, and have sent NdC out as labeled as BK?

Was the taste superb? Krim usually is. I don't know about your weather last year but I do know that here it was unseasonably hot and most of my fruits were smaller than normal. I would find another seed source and grow both seeds out side by side to see if they are the same.

I did also in 2021 grow a Noire de Crimee plant given to me by a friend, from an unknown french seed source. The plant was not in ideal conditions, but the fruit looked a lot more like I expected ..... top right in this pic

The 'Black Krim' was a dusky pink colour

check out Caroyln's Noir De Crime in her book ...... page 174 she says:

BK and NdC should be the same tomato, but after growing both I discovered they weren't

her NDC is the smaller more rounded type .... not the beefsteak larger one generally sold as Black Krim; she also noted that Black Krim is available commercially while NdC is not .... mind you this was back in 1999

Yes! Looking at my records that one was 457g, just over a pound. It was so heavy it split the stem and I had to pick it green, but it ripened up beautifully

I can testify they are not the same (BK & NdC)

As a lover of Black Krim, I was impressed by NdCrimee.. the plant was so lush, green and strong, and it pumped out many many fruits, which were smaller in size, and thus easier to handle than the monsters I got from Black krim plants.
I love both, but it is up to your preferences which you like best.
