Thanks Sue, your 6A zone is similar to mine, give or take a zone here on any given day. I try to get the zone 4 roses , and should start gearing toward Siberian and Canadian tomatoes. North Idaho has 2 or 3 days of summer, the rest of the year I'm freezing cold. My tomatoes need little knitted sweaters.

I don't grow only short season tomatoes at all! I try to limit the number of "late" varieties to one or two but I include early, mid and late varieties and I don't think I have ever had a plant that did not produce at all. Mid season is fine for you, mean 75-85 days to maturity if you are in a similar zone. Some years I am done by early to mid September but other years I have been picking tomatoes until late October. As long as you get some decent sized plants in by Memorial Day weekend or soon afterwards at the latest, you should get a good crop from any early to mid season tomato by mid August as long as they are in a spot with good sun and soil and they get enough water.
