Marigolds and gophers?

While I was working in the garden the other evening, I overheard fellow community gardeners chatting about gophers. One person said that gophers (a continuing problem at this site) seemed to avoid an area where they had planted marigolds. I was rushing to finish up before it got too dark, but I was wondering: has anyone else noticed ANY plants that deter gophers?

Marigold and Daffodils are my two favorites. One for the spring and the other for the summer.

Its the poison. They don't like the smell and it makes them sick. Daffodils are especially toxic. I've heard of Marigolds being used for medicine or tea or something, but I wouldn't trust it.

Marigolds are edible. I have western pocket gophers everywhere. So far, the main things thry leave alone are things that are highly scented like rosemary and then other odd things like impatiens soldenii. I have heard of them eating all of these thins though, and so i imagine it depends on desparation levels. Like it was fun when they took down my 3ft agave. I was so upset.
