Brandywine RL
Found a brandywine RL plant today that was labeled heirloom and I know it isn't.
Hope it is a red one instead of the usual pink.
Brandywine is always PL except for the hybrid marriage ones.

Re: Brandywine RL
Carolyn documents Brandywine Red in her book and it is R/L and not a hybrid marriage one, but a true heirloom.

Re: Brandywine RL
The plant id tag just said brandywine heirloom with a pretty picture.
It didn't say what color.

Re: Brandywine RL
I grow a Brandywine from Croatia and a Brandywine Liam's, and I think they are both RL, if I remember correctly. But I don't really know if they are in any way related to the original Brandywine Sudduth's Strain or not. Nice tomatoes, though.

Brandywine from Croatia, Brandywine Liam's, Red Brandywine, and Yellow Brandywine (Abundant Life) are all RL.FarmerShawn wrote: ↑Thu May 12, 2022 2:41 pm I grow a Brandywine from Croatia and a Brandywine Liam's, and I think they are both RL, if I remember correctly. Simply calling a tomato "Brandywine", in today's world of info overload, is going to cause confusion.

Re: Brandywine RL
We love the red Brandywine and this year I had one seedling come up with PL so I guess that it will be a pink Brandywine.
I did not mix up the seeds when planting because I do not have any Pink Brandywine seeds.

Re: Brandywine RL
I love the RL because when the seeds pop up it is easy to separate the sheep from the goats when using saved seed.

Re: Brandywine RL
My guess as to a labeled red Brandywine being PL is that it is a pink tomato. There is a long history of people calling pinks, reds. Older Seed Savers Exchange catalogs are overflowing with pinks being in the red catgory of tomatoes

Re: Brandywine RL
I think that they probably accidently mixed in a pink seed because all of the ones I have grown from that pack of seeds for the last 2 years have been RL.
I am going to plant it and see what I get. I like the pink ones too.

Re: Brandywine RL
The correct leaf form for Brandywine Red is RL, however there is another variety of Red Brandywine that is PL offered by Tomato Growers Supply.https://tomatogrowers.com/products/bran ... be0e&_ss=r

Re: Brandywine RL
A food store was selling red brandywine plants and 99% were PL
I found and bought 1 plant RL so I hope it isn't something else just mislabeled.

Re: Brandywine RL
Why do you look for RL? All my Brandywine's are PL. I only plant Brandywine Sudduth. You don't like pink tomatoes?

Can't tell when they are ripe, sauce has that anemic look.
I avoid GWR tomatoes also.
Garden peach is tricky, the single strip goes from green to red when ripe.

Re: Brandywine RL
It makes saving seeds easier,I do a grip and rip on the PL seedlings.
