first ripe micro tomato is.........
hardins minature
for maybe the second year in a row.
my wife and i each had one in our salad yesterday. tiny, but they count.
i was trying to beat my record last year by starting my first micros about mid january this year in hopes of
getting that first ripe tomato in april, but that didn't work out. it is pretty much a year to the day my first
micros were ripe last year. maybe its a length of day thing. these micros haven't been under the grow lights.
they have been strictly window sill. black patio is blushing although this plant isn't looking very black here in the house.
premus has about full size fruit, but no blushing so far.
second wave of jochalos, tiny tim, venus, baby, and yellow canary all have blossoms or tiny fruit.

Re: first ripe micro tomato is.........
naw, i don't i will be starting more any time soon. here is why.
last year was a good tomato year for us. once the garden tomatoes started ripening,
we were eating them until we could only sit, and burp. the micros got forgotten, and
the chickens ate quite a few of them. i haven't decided if i want to try growing a few micros
during the winter months or not yet.
the micros i brought into work are doing well. i could have sold them several times over. customers
keep wanting to buy them. i have maybe 4 bucks each just in supplies for each plant between 1 gal. pot,
bottom piece for water, and dirt. seeds were from you folks. might be pricey for a few handfuls of tomatoes.
people here might not care about price though. there is such a pent up demand for plants in the spring after our
winters. people get that look in their eyes. my tech will disappear into the green house. take your phone with you
at least, we tell her so we can call you if we need you. she just laughs.

This is my new flight of micros. Left to right: Aztek, Andrina, Inkspot, Vilma, Yellow Canary, Totem.

So far, Totem is ahead in the tomato race, being the with flowers.

The current batch is still putting out cherries but as soon as the newbies outgrow the shelf lights, the oldies will be moved from their light table to the front porch.

@rxkeith after 15 year of my husband traveling for work being gone months at a time he is finally moving into a town position with only minamal travel this time around... that being said his favorite micros were the vilma's so that is the only reason I started more because now he will be able to enjoy them.. my totum plant is huge... looking forward to trying it..i will post a picture in a little bit...

Re: first ripe micro tomato is.........
It's amazing how fast these micros grow. The last pic I posted below was just ten days ago. Here they are this morning, with Totem at the back right, taller than the rest.

It's the first of these new six to set fruit.

Yellow Canary seems to be the slowest of the six with very few buds and no flowers yet.

I agree they do grow so fast I really like how big these tomatoes got bigger than a cherry size for shure hubby says these are our new winter tomatoes haha but he just doesn’t want me growing a 2 foot plant in the house but I managed to find some nogosable varieties
