Chef’s Choice Black Hybrid
Has anyone here grown Chef’s Choice Black Hybrid? What are your thoughts and experience with this one?
How was it's taste, disease issues, productivity and would you grow it again?

It's a black, and it's a hybrid. What are the chances the Captain has grown it?

I grew it last year. It did ok til the nematodes took it down, tho... Only 2 ripe fruit, but they were excellent! Very nice, deep flavor...not too tangy. I may try it in a container this time around.
I have 2 seasons: Tomato and pepper season, and BAMA Football season!

Re: Chef’s Choice Black Hybrid
I'm growing it now. Sowed seeds 9/1. No cracking of fruit during the heat. Plant on one side of the house is super healthy; the other plant got beat up bad from a horrible storm that came through.
Would grow again for sure.
DId you see that they have Chef Choice Purple, and some others now? I've tried a several of the Chef Choice. The Pink and Yellow gives HUGE fruits. The Orange gives the most - all uniform sizes.

No Barb I didn't know that. Thanks for letting us know. I only knew about the 5, Orange, Pink, Green, Black and Red. I searched after your post and they now have Purple, Bicolor, Stripes and Yellow. Is anyone trying any of these this year?

I got Chef's Choice orange last year, or rather, what was supposed to be. Turned out to be both red plum type. Won't buy any chef's choice again.

Where did you buy your seeds from? My Chef Choice Orange pack was a few years old from Park Seed and they were spot on.pepperhead212 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 25, 2020 7:36 pm I got Chef's Choice orange last year, or rather, what was supposed to be. I bought the Pink, Yellow, and Black from Totally Tomatoes (first time buying from them) and they were all true too.

Re: Chef’s Choice Black Hybrid
Chef's Choice Black is an All American Selection winner, so it should do well in all regions of the country. Having said that, I've never grown it and have heard that Chef's Choice Red doesn't have the greatest flavor. When seed becomes better available I'll try Chef's Choice Black. Hopefully it tastes as good as Indian Stripe.
