Welcome!
Glogs are a great way to keep track of your garden and to help review your plants performance. I am looking forward to hearing how your garden grows for you this year.
I doubt that you will be narrowing things down much but rather you will be expanding your garden to try out even more of these wonderful varieties.

It's a nice place to start, with ten reputable varieties for your 35 spots.
Many of us, as new tomato growers, quickly go to the equivalent of 70 varieties for the 35 spots in a year or two. And maybe settle back down to a realistic maximum in another year or two. You may take on additional plots in community gardens, start wishing for a bigger place, or planning to move to a farm, or.... Tack on some years to persuade your significant other, that more ground for tomatoes is a must.

It is a lot of work, but last year when I grew 7 plants the harvest was kinda small. Purple Zebra and Pomodoro Squisito. A lot of BER on the Pomodoro. This way I can try out a lot of varieties to see which perform best in my yard.

There are lots of variables surrounding the ups and downs in tomato production. One of them is tomato varieties. Are you doing anything with other variables?

"narrow down the selection for next year." (famous last words for most of us). "I don't understand the meaning of that" (most of us don't understand the meaning of it either !!!). Every year we say we will cut back but most of us don't. "Can someone help me here ?" ( Most of us have "the disease of never enough") Most likely we will just enable you to grow more plants . It's so so sad !!

Well he is growing multiples of everything. If he grew just one of each variety he would be able to keep the same number of plants but grow far more varieties. Then he could challenge his palate and learn about disease issues.Yak54 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 6:55 pm "narrow down the selection for next year." (famous last words for most of us). Re: davood's tomatoes and peppers 2023
Thirty five tomato plants and 16 peppers is just a first draft. There will still be plenty of time before things go into the garden to add more varieties this year, trial more peppers, and maybe add some cukes, melons, and beans. That's why there are nurseries in addition to seed vendors. And anyone selling starter plants as a fund raiser deserves some support...
If you're already thinking about next year you're think too far ahead.

Re: davood's tomatoes and peppers 2023
Great question. After last season I had the soil tested. It's low in phosphorus. Index value 17. Have some triple superphosphate that I will apply per the recommendations. I think it will help increase fruit set and yield.Tormato wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 1:54 pmThere are lots of variables surrounding the ups and downs in tomato production. Magnesium and Calcium were a bit excessive in the soil, but I don't think there's much I can do about that except to avoid applying any more.
I didn't really have too much disease pressure last year aside from BER. But I have some Surround WP (recommended by edible landscaping) and anticipate applying it as a preventative measure.

I thought about that but really want to collect seed to fuel future growing seasons so opted to plant more of each variety, and fewer varieties overall.MissS wrote: ↑Wed Mar 08, 2023 9:55 pmWell he is growing multiples of everything.
