Re: MMMM requirements
Even if there are few, or no, other requests for allium seed, I'll take anything you got.eyolf wrote: ↑Thu Mar 16, 2023 1:24 pmI do, but prolly not lots. Looks like around 120 seeds...more than enough for me. Orig source Northrup King, about 1995.
I can share if you have requests but no supply.
But also a question. Another of my interests are potato onions. First time ever, my white potato onions sent seed stalks up in 2021: I allowed them (and a few red, yellow, and white sets nearby) to do so, knowing crossing was likely.
I seemed to get white, yellow, bronze, pink, and brown-skinned multi-center the first year (22)
Depending on what comes of it, I'd be pleased to share with like-minded souls...but also recognize that there may well be limits to Gary's gracious patience, even physical ability to act as clearing house.
So, asking what you think. IF my plantings.produce something interesting, interested?
In my garden, the rankings are #1 tomatoes, #2 legumes, #3 squash, #4 alliums, and #5 is everything else.

Re: MMMM requirements
the yellow pear seeds are from 2021; probably still good. The original seed packet is gone, but my notes refer to this 1995 date
Regarding potato onions: This would be actual bulbs, not seed.
I will share later next summer, renewing conversation to try to get an idea of demand.
Thanks!

Re: MMMM requirements
If you are entering a category, its 10 packs of one variety. If you are just entering the general swap then send whatever you want and or can. Don't worry about being late, many of us are. He has seeds coming and going all year long. If they are too late for this years swap he will just add them to next years stash.Nikki loves Tomatoes wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 3:46 pm How many tomato packs do I send in? Re: MMMM requirements
I have always been afraid to do the MMMM. I am afraid that I would be overrun with seeds of too many varieties to choose from.

Re: MMMM requirements
Extremely rare is the participant who can set a limit as to the number of varieties that will be sent. But they can be accommodated for, as long as it's communicated clearly. Start working on your wish list, please.

Re: MMMM requirements
Is the bubble mailer sent in another bubble mailer with the seeds and stamps we're sending in or are you reusing the mailer we send the seeds and stamps in to mail back to us?
I haven't participated in this one before so excuse the questions if they're silly, please!
Thanks!

Re: MMMM requirements
It depends on the condition of the bubble mailer when it comes in. I like the plastic ones, rather than the craft paper ones. The paper ones have a tendency to tear, before they arrive, here.TinyTomatoTribe wrote: ↑Wed Jun 12, 2024 9:28 am Is the bubble mailer sent in another bubble mailer with the seeds and stamps we're sending in or are you reusing the mailer we send the seeds and stamps in to mail back to us?

Another thing is that the PO has gone to huge labels with bar codes/tracking info, etc... that can be difficult to peal off or cover up, and then relabel the mailer to be sent back out. I once had someone send in a package with mostly 1 cent stamps, the stamps covering almost the entire side of the bubble mailer. I'm not dealing with removing that. It's entirely up to participants as to whether they include a bubble mailer inside of a bubble mailer.
I'm glad you posted, because I'm going to mention that postage rates went up this past year. On average, the mailing cost was just under $6, while many sent in what I requested, $5. And, I'll most likely be doing the early mailing of wish list varieties with a separate envelope and single stamp.
Bubble mailers are best for large amounts of packs of light weight seeds, like tomatoes.
Envelopes and one stamp are fine for small amounts of small seeds.
Flat rate padded envelopes or boxes are best for large amounts of beans, and the like.
There are no silly questions.

Re: MMMM requirements
You send in $ for postage and just the label to be attached to the padded parcel envelope that you mail in when he returns it.AKgardener wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2024 10:54 pm So dumb question do I send you an envelope with a stamped evelope inside?? Re: MMMM requirements
I'm new this year, but spent a few nights skimming through the forums, and don't think I've seen this answered:
Is it possible to arrange an electronic payment for postage like Paypal, Zelle, Venmo, CashApp etc?
I thought the post office discourages sending cash in the mail?

I'd also rather send @Tormato the money for return postage via bank transfer or paypal, since cash money might become a problem with customs ...markz wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 11:28 pm I'm new this year, but spent a few nights skimming through the forums, and don't think I've seen this answered:

If it's just going to be one letter at a time, sent back, the cost of that one Global Forever stamp isn't much. Multiple letters do not total very much, either.

Re: MMMM requirements
In my very limited experience with the MMMM swap, no one at the PO has bothered to pilfer the modest amount of money I have included in my mailer to Westfield. Stamps would be likely even less attractive to postal workers with criminal intent. Now, if you include a Chanel bag or a Patek Philippe watch in your seed shipment then all bets are off.
Euros or Pounds Sterling might be an issue, though, better to send stamps I would think.

Re: MMMM requirements
I cannot set up electronic payments. I now am able to do money orders or checks, as I've made it to 20th century living. Another option might be a USPS prepaid postage label, although I'm not the biggest fan of them.markz wrote: ↑Sat Sep 28, 2024 11:28 pm I'm new this year, but spent a few nights skimming through the forums, and don't think I've seen this answered:

I think that I've only had one or two packages, out of 1,500+ over the years, shipped from within the USA, to not make it here. And with one of them, the participant put just purchased stamps into their bubble mailer, in front of the postal workers.
Just don't make the cash visible inside the package. Place it inside of a folded up wish list or inside of a small envelope. For "somewhat" further security, if possible, put all bubble mailer contents into a large zip lock baggie first, and then that baggie in the bubble mailer. That way, if the bubble mailer is opened, contents won't spill all over.
I've only seen a few packages "accidentally torn" open (actually precision slit open, at the small space at the top of a bubble mailer, where there are no bubbles). And, these accidents only happened when shipped from huge cities, like LA, Chicago, Houston and New York.

Re: MMMM requirements
How many envelopes (I'm assuming just small thin seeds like tomatoes and peppers will be requested), having 40-50 varieties in each, do you expect back? One GLOBAL Forever stamp is needed for each envelope.
If you can't locate them, don't worry about it. Other participants will cover for the few foreign participants. A few extra cents in donations is worth those varieties that we, in the USA, have little access to.
