Welcome to the Global Gardening & Homesteading Community
Welcome to Tomatojunction!!!
Browse the forum, make friends, ask for help but most importantly have fun, Just a reminder to follow the rules, this is a family friendly forum discussing all things gardening.
FYI to all the TJ members, the Global Gardening & Homesteading Community is the old Shedwars from Youtube that needed a place to have discussions so I agreed to make a forum for that to happen. We're all gardeners and hopefully we all learn something from having them here.
The forum is at the bottom of the Home page or you can find it here. viewforum.php?f=123

Thanks for the heads up! Is there some way we could choose to exclude messages from that category in our New Posts view? I was very confused and thought it was some kind of spam attack before I read this, oops.

same, and lots of them get labeled as their sub-category "general discussions" (vs. "general discussion" which is this category) and then I click through and it's actually this other thingCranraspberry wrote: ↑Wed Mar 15, 2023 6:08 pm Thanks for the heads up! @MissS thank you! I hope I didn’t come across as rude or unwelcoming, that definitely wasn’t my intention.

It's password protected now. That means you can log-in and read posts and get notifications from the group OR if you don't log-in, you won't see them. If you do see the posts, just log out(of TJ) and back in and they'll be gone.

@jamiethemime my computer also keeps me logged in sometimes when I've been out a short time. Don't worry about it, just read the small print under the heading and you'll know which forum it's in.
I see that there's some crossover between forum posts and members here are giving the welcome by chiming in, and I hope that everyone's happy with that. There will be lots of gardening videos being posted by the YouTubers as the season goes on, so that will be exciting too!

Re: Welcome to the Global Gardening & Homesteading Community
Im super confused. Why dont the new members just join the TJ forum and participate in it instead of having two separate forums in the same forum?
Like what is the difference between the forums? I think several of us participated in threads thinking they were just part of normal TJ. Now they are the other forum?
Confused. Very confused.

I agree, and have not joined because of it either. Too much confusion here.Moth1992 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 3:14 pm Im super confused. Why dont the new members just join the TJ forum and participate in it instead of having two separate forums in the same forum?

I'm not sure how "un see" the threads from that semi-private subforum. They still show up in New Posts.

Re: Welcome to the Global Gardening & Homesteading Community
@JRinPA you may just need to clean up your "New Topics" page manually, by clicking on the threads from the first days of the subforum, so that your browser considers you have read them and don't remain in the list of new topics. That is what I did and am not seeing new ones appearing since I am not logged in there.
WRT the separate subforum, they already had their own group, they are youtubers doing challenges and making videos about their homesteading and gardening, but also wanted a place to discuss stuff. They are members of TJ and may decide to join in with us at any time, but I think at present they're pretty busy with their own thing, which is video focused. We are still welcome to visit their threads, view their videos, and cross post as well if there's a common interest in some topic. And vice versa. Hope that clears up any lingering confusion.

Re: Welcome to the Global Gardening & Homesteading Community
Two more on page 1 and 2 of my New Posts. Looks like they were threads started and active in March and now just bumped the last couple days with a new post each, both Grow Log posts.
So I click on them and then Back and Refresh and they are gone from New Posts. Is the idea that they should not show up again for my User since I am not logged in to post?
Edit: well that didn't work, 3 bumps in a row by wilderstead put that on top of New Posts each time. I just want to know if this the way it is supposed to work or not. The confusing part is the forum structure was mirrored, maybe? There is a main forum grow logs and a semi-private grow logs and the text on New Posts appears to be same subforum but the hyperlinks direct to different ones.
The team wilsons misfits is in GlobalGardGLforum (f=126) while svalli's 63 north is in the tomatojunction Grow log forum (f=65), but the text displayed is the same on New Posts and getting busy on there. Like whack a mole.

Is there a way to identify the posts by adding a symbol or using some kind of color identifying it as coming from the forum?

Re: Welcome to the Global Gardening & Homesteading Community
I found a 14 year old thread on the phpBB forum regarding this issue of "new posts". But I don't know if it was implemented. https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=1600915

Re: Welcome to the Global Gardening & Homesteading Community
Looks like you nailed it @Rajun Gardener . Good job man. If I log into the global forums with the password (currently 99), then I can see threads from there on New Posts. Then if I log off of tomato junction and log back in, then the global forums threads are not included in New Posts listing.
That opens up some possibilities, I would think.
