Re: Have a Favorite Micro Dwarf ?
The first micro I've ever tried is "Herzensbrecher" (eng. Heartbreaker). Unfortunately there are multiple sources out there that sell different (little) Heartbreakers. Some are labeled as F1, some OP. I have no idea which one is mine. Maybe they are all one and the same?
Anyway, it's a sturdy little determinate plant with pointy, red, excellent fruits. I liked the flavor so much that I used it as one the parents in my original cross for my dwarf lines.

Re: Have a Favorite Micro Dwarf ?
I really liked the stocky thick leaves on Jocholas . It was fun handing out Micros ; about 20 went to the food bank, and the mailman lady got my last one.
My health hasn't been the greatest , it's a bad allergy year even for the dog . It was a hard decision to give all my tomato plants away but I knew I couldn't keep up both the household and gardening. I'll hopefully take another run at Tomatoes next year having gained more knowledge on the subject.
Hope everyone has a great season , thanks for sharing your experience.

Re: Have a Favorite Micro Dwarf ?
I tasted a few small yellow tomatoes from a micro my neighbor grew in a pot from one of the starts I gave her - they were surprisingly good. Her little micro plant was covered in fruit. I have to go through my seeds and try to figure out the name of what it was, and if I have any more seeds. Micros are definitely worth growing.

Re: Have a Favorite Micro Dwarf ?
Apologies for not seeing your post earlier! It is/was widely available. I got my seed at Totally Tomatoes. Also I've seen it listed at Victory and Park Seeds. One thing that I can add is that although it produces a lot of cherries, it will make a later "second crop." But the second was not nearly so sweet as the first for me. Also, I grew it in an EarthBox this season, and the plant got to about 30." But in a 12" basket (or similar), it will stay small, and still produce a good crop.Moth1992 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 11:15 pmWho sells those patio choice?Greatgardens wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 6:56 am One of the very best is Patio Choice Yellow F1. It is slightly larger than a mico -- I call it a mini-dwarf. For me about 18" or so tall. Very good production and nice sweet taste. It is an AAS winner and its picture is here:
https://all-americaselections.org/produ ... to/page/2/
(Look through all the AAS winners -- I have found that nearly all AAS winners do well for me here in 5b.)
Sweetness is lacking in virtually all the true micros I've grown. Basket tomatoes (Tumbler, Lizzano, Terenzo) that I've grown almost always taste better than micos, IMO. If I absolutely had to grow a micro, it would be Aztek (yellow). It is one of the larger micros. A lesser second would be Red Robin. I've probably grown 20 or so different micros, and only Aztek would make the cut for me.

Rosy finch looks like a pretty tomato to grow in a pot in the flower bed.

Re: Have a Favorite Micro Dwarf ?
I'm growing mine mostly in Aerogardens. Baby was HORRIBLE, Fat Frog was not great. Yellow Patio Choice and Jip and Jenneke have been my best two so far. I have Orange Hat, Bajaja, Balcony Miracle Yellow, Father Frost, and Florida Petite seeded now.
I grew Farthest North, Christmas Tree, Whippersnapper and Cherry Falls in soil. Cherry Falls was AMAZINGLY prolific, and tasted pretty good. The others were meh.

SO GLAD to be back! I was locked out for about three months, for some strange reason.
Missed you all terribly!

Re: Have a Favorite Micro Dwarf ?
I'm an avid micro dwarf collector and grower, and I have been doing a 'Micro Dwarf Tomato Project' for the past year and a half. I am attempting to grow every single micro dwarf to review and also save seeds to trade with my tomato group. I currently have 160 varieties and grew about 135 of those this past summer.
I just posted my top 10 micro dwarf varieties in the group. They are:
Vilma (by FAR the most delicious of the bunch)
Tiny Totem (delicious LARGE fruits for a micro)
Little Heartbreaker (not to be confused with regular Heartbreaker or any of the Heartbreakers Dora, Twiggy, or Vita series from Prudac)
Funnyplum Yellow
Inkspot
Miri Miri Micro
Wooly Zwerg
Polar Baby
Jochalos
(TIE) Evita & Lois' Baby Tiger
I'm having such fun with this project and have already started about 15 more varieties for growing indoors this winter! Happy to answer any micro dwarf questions anyone has!

I want to add a postscript to my earlier post. Fat Frog started a second harvest while I was concentrating on my outside garden, and while the first harvest was pretty terrible, the second one is surprisingly yummy!

So interesting to see your list. For me vilma was a "meh" and inkspot was a spitter. Jochalos was ok but didnt produce well.
Conditions and taste buds make such a difference go figure!
