Centennial. Based on the Michener book, and introduced and narrated by James A Michener himself. Who btw was big time world traveler, raised as a Quaker, and a dyed in the wool PA Democrat that wanted the electoral college disbanded even though every smart professor he talked to explained why we need it.
Basically a good smart guy who leaned West, but was totally interested in good for all people, keeping the earth intact for future generations, and full understanding that history makes men, not the other way around.
So his big Western was Centennial, and they made a TV mini series of it (12 parts!!) and I've read it and seen it before, once or maybe twice. Bad stuff happens to good people, there are bad, greedy people in every group, etc are the basic themes Michener writes about, while telling the history or an area. He wrote about...Hawaii, Colorado, Chesapeake Bay, South Africa, Israel, the Caribbean, Poland, Alaska, a travelouge in Franco's Spain, even the moonshot, and the young hippie flight from the draft.
I watched episode 1 yesterday. There are about 100 different indians in the first one (yes they were called indians in the 1700s and 1800s) and there was one single bad guy chief, played by an actor that always played "heavies". I thought "uh oh, they're not gonna like this".
So I'm about to start episode 2, when I see this WARNING.
TV-PG
AC - Adult Content
AL - Adult Language (this was broadcast network in the 1970s, there is nothing bad compared language in modern stuff)
OC - Outdated Cultural Depiction (!!!!! there it is!)
V- Violence (duh)
