We were okay in southern South Dakota but my niece in northern South Dakota lost her phone service. Her boyfriend still had his so we talked to her on his phone. Her service came back by this afternoon.

Less than twenty bucks per month for our flip phone with Consumer Cellular which uses the ATT network. Rarely use the flip phone, mostly if we are out and about. Also for long distance calls because our home phone is basic service.

The home phone is better for calling 911 because they instantly know your exact address. About $50 for the home phone and $20 for the cell. I don't know how much longer we will have the land line. ATT has indicated they want to stop providing land lines here in Calif. Maybe not this year but surely not in the not too distant future.

I had cell service but my coworker didn't.
I joked with him to call 911 to see if it worked.
We both laughed.


Well sure enough idiots tried it.

The Massachusetts State Police said that people were flooding their 911 center with calls trying to determine if the service worked from their cell phones.

"Please do not do this. If you can successfully place a non-emergency call to another number via your cell service then your 911 service will also work," the state police said in a post on X.

I think the country would be better off if we had those phones turned off every other day. Like gas pumps in the 70s.
