Hats off the the Merchant Marines that helped bring the war to an end.
They never fired a shot but their liberty ships were constantly being stalked by the German wolf packs.
Apparently 200 went to the bottom by way of enemy attacks bad weather and breaking up in the Atlantic.

My grandfather on my dad's side was on the train headed to go over or into Boot camp when they singed the armistice during WW1.
He was conscripted.
My father at the time would have been about 4 years old and the only child in the family.
My father was of age for WW2 but they said he needed to stay and work the farm and raise peanuts.
