They are forbidding the sale of seeds and closing all garden centers as well as part of a very tight lock down. I really don't understand the seed issue because seeds are considered a food source and are a covered item under the SNAP program (food stamps). Michigan now has the most restricted lock down in the country.

Just a fine point that i think makes a big difference, only garden centers that are INSIDE or part of a larger store that is greater than 50,000 square feet has to close or rope off its garden center. We for instance, have free standing, independent garden centers and smaller stores (Like Agway) that are no where near 50,000 sqft. It appears that even in Michigan those would be open and you could buy your seeds there. Not to mention online.

seeds or vegetable plants too while they are out, and about. limit the number of people in the store if you need to,
but jeez, let's use a little common sense.
smaller stores will still be able to sell greenhouse plants. my store will have a greenhouse. the owner is big into plants.
myself, i had a $90.00 order from sandhill preservation this year. i'm set for seeds. most of what goes into the garden is
started from seed.

the other thing is the U.P. is under the same restrictions as the rest of the state.
wayne and oakland counties are two hot spots in lower michigan. houghton where
i am has had two confirmed cases of the virus. there are other counties up here that
have zero cases. the U.P. is a different world compared to a good part of the rest of the state,
but the same rules apply.

I understand. I was born in Detroit and lived in AA and Ypsilanti until my 20’s, and vacationed all over Michigan including the UP.
I get that the UP is empty compared to Metro Detroit.

I think your governor is right. Contrast that with Florida, where I am now, and the Spring Break fiasco. Florida is a slow-motion disaster right now. Once they start tallying cases from nursing homes the numbers will go way up.

Here is her rhyme and reason.Her state is the 3rd highest in Covid-19 infections in the entire US, and she certainly does not have the third highest population. That means she has a much, much more severe rate of infections per her states population than 47 other states. That means she has many more people going out without masks or/and other protection, a lot of them being asymptomatic carriers and spreaders, and she is doing severe measures because her state's specific needs warrant it.
A package of seeds, like a grocery bag, or any other surface, can hold active virus for up to 17 days(scientifically proven with cultures done on cruise ship surfaces up to 17 days after people disembarked). She needs to be given some leeway, she is trying to keep people safe. Science does matter more than someones beliefs thatnit is otherwise, and the virus doesn't careanout anyones belief system.
